For most Indian D2C brands it is not Meta ads vs Google ads, it is both, with Meta doing the heavy lifting. Meta creates demand and finds new customers through scroll-stopping creative, while Google captures people already searching for you or your category. A typical winning split is roughly 45 to 55 percent Meta, 25 to 30 percent Google, and the rest in channels like YouTube and WhatsApp.
Meta ads versus Google ads is the wrong question for most Indian D2C brands. They do different jobs: Google captures people already searching for what you sell, while Meta creates demand among people who were not looking yet. The right answer is usually both, in the right order for your margins and stage.
Google is demand capture. Someone types your product or category and you show up on Search or Shopping, so intent is high and conversion is quicker, but volume is capped by how many people are already searching. Meta is demand generation: your creative interrupts the feed and makes people want something they were not hunting for, which is how you grow beyond existing search volume.
| Meta ads | Google ads | |
|---|---|---|
| Intent | Low to mid: you create the want | High: they are already searching |
| Best for | New products, impulse categories, scale | Known categories, high-intent capture |
| Driver | Creative and offer | Keywords, feed and landing page |
| Ceiling | Huge, if creative keeps working | Capped by existing search demand |
Run them on the platforms best suited to each: demand-generation creative on Meta, intent capture on Google Search and Shopping. They feed each other; Meta often lifts branded searches that Google then captures.
If people already search for your category, start with Google to capture that cheap intent, then layer Meta to grow demand. If your product is new or impulse-led with little search volume, start with Meta to create demand, and let Google catch the branded and category searches that follow.
If search demand exists, start on Google to bank intent.
Layer Meta creative to grow beyond search volume.
Close warm browsers across both platforms.
Judge the mix on blended ROAS, not per platform.
So which is better for Indian D2C? Neither alone. Google captures the demand that exists; Meta creates the demand that does not yet. The brands that scale use both together and measure the blended result, rather than forcing a false choice.
